A menu link does not show on the site

Causes and fixes when a link you added on the Menus screen does not appear in the header menu or footer of the public site.

The public site shows a menu as it was saved and hides some links. Check the causes below in order.

The menu is not saved

While there are unsaved changes, Unsaved changes shows at the top of the card. Press Save menu.

The target page is not published

A link to an unpublished page, policy or guide stays hidden until the page is published. When you save the menu, a warning appears for this link. Publish the target page.

The category is not shown

A link to an inactive category, or to a category hidden on the public site, is not shown. The category settings are described in Managing Categories.

The sub-links of a hidden link are hidden too. Check the target of the parent link.

The menu is not in use

If the Use this menu on the public site switch is off, the site shows the default links for this location and language. The default links also appear when the menu has no visible link left. Switch it on and check the targets of the links.

Each language has its own menu. To show the link on the English site, add it to the English menu too.

Cache

The public site caches menus for up to 20 seconds. After saving, wait a moment and reload the page.
