When the Ministry of Culture and Tourism assigns the number, the Ministry officer enters it on the request. At this point the request must be Sent to the Ministry.

  1. On the request page, press Enter the ISBN.
  2. In ISBN-13, type the number as the Ministry's screen shows it. You can use hyphens and spaces.
  3. Check the results in the Number check section.
  4. Press Save the ISBN.

Number check

Before saving the number, JournTech checks the following.

  • The number has 13 digits and its check digit matches. If you enter an ISBN-10, its 13-digit form is saved.
  • The number is in one of Türkiye's ISBN groups. These groups are 978-605, 978-625, 978-975 and 978-9944.
  • The number is not used on another request or another catalogue record.

If the range message of the International ISBN Agency has been fetched, the group and the registrant range of the number are checked against it. If it has not been fetched yet, only Türkiye's prefixes are checked, and the dialog says so.

If the range message has not been refreshed for more than three weeks, it lacks the groups and registrant ranges opened since it was last fetched. A number it does not know is then not refused. The number is saved with a warning, and the copyright page and the barcode show it without hyphens until the message is refreshed. When you see the warning, compare the number with the one on the Ministry's screen. A number whose check digit does not match, or that belongs to another country's group, is still refused.

After saving

The request becomes ISBN assigned, and the number is written to the identifiers of the catalogue record. On a request opened with a title only, the number stays on the request. The book's first printing is also added to the request automatically. From now on, the barcode and the copyright page (künye) are ready.

If the number is recorded on another request or record, the dialog shows a link that opens it. If no number is entered within 1 business day of sending the request to the Ministry, the Ministry officers get a reminder.
