Starting a New Round After a Revision

Making a decision directly after the author submits a revision, or sending the submission to a new review round.

Permission needed
Screen submissions, request missing documents, send to review, Invite and manage reviewers

When the author submits a revision, the status of the submission changes to Revision submitted and a new round starts. The editors of the submission get a notification. It is up to you whether you send the revision to reviewers again or make a decision directly.

Checking the revision

The card of the new round opens on the Reviewers tab. The card shows the Author’s response to reviewers text and the Files of this round list. The invitations and reviews of the earlier rounds stay on the tab.

Direct decision

If no new reviewer opinion is needed, an Editor-in-chief makes the decision right away on the Decision tab. The steps are in Making a Decision.

New review round

  1. On the Next step card of the Overview tab, press Send to peer review and confirm.
  2. On the Reviewers tab, press Invite reviewer.
  3. Select the reviewers of the previous round from the pool again. If a reviewer does not appear in the pool, enter their e-mail address on the By e-mail tab. If an account with this address exists, the invitation goes to that account.
  4. Press Send invitation.

You cannot use the Invite again action for an invitation from a previous round, because the action appears only on the invitations of the current round. The reviewer receives a new invitation for the new round. After accepting it, they see the author's response to the reviewers and the current anonymous files.

The steps of the invitation are in Inviting Reviewers.
