How-to
Assigning Editors
Assigning a handling editor, section editor or editor-in-chief to a submission and removing an assignment.
When you assign editors to a submission, the notifications of the submission go only to the assigned editors. If no editor is assigned, the notifications go to all editors in scope. The permission to assign editors belongs to the Editor-in-chief role.
- On the Overview tab of the submission, find the Editor assignments card.
- Press Assign editor.
- Select the person in the Editor list. Editors who can decide carry the Can decide label. If a person is already assigned with another role, that role appears under their name.
- In the Role list, select Handling editor, Section editor or Editor-in-chief.
- Press Assign editor in the dialog.
The assigned editor gets a notification and sees the submission in the Assigned to me box of the queue. The assignment is written to the timeline and the audit log.
An editor whose account was closed counts as not assigned. The Account closed label appears next to the name, the notifications go to the other editors, and the submission is also listed in the Unassigned box of the queue. Assign another editor to the submission.
Editors you can assign
- The list includes only editors who may see this submission and whose e-mail address is verified.
- The authors of the submission and the reviewers who accepted an invitation for it do not appear in the list.
- The Editor-in-chief role can be given only to an editor with the permission to decide.
- You cannot assign the same person with the same role twice.
- Editors cannot be assigned to a withdrawn submission.
Removing an assignment
- On the Editor assignments card, press the cross button in the editor's row.
- In the confirmation dialog, press Unassign.
An editor you unassign keeps seeing the submission in the queue as long as it is within their scope. They are no longer among the assigned editors.
