Concept
Submission Rules
The rules the system applies to submissions on visibility, locking, reviewer anonymity, conflicts of interest and file security.
The system applies the following rules itself, so that the submission process stays fair and traceable.
Who sees what
You see only your own submissions. Reviewers see only the anonymous files. The title page, the cover letter and the declaration document are open to the editors only.
The reviewers' identities are not shown to you. In journals that practise open peer review, the reviewer's name is shown. Of a reviewer's report, you see only the comments for the author that the editor shared, and the reviewer's attachment if there is one. Scores, recommendations and confidential comments to the editor are not shared.
Locking of the submitted version
The version you submitted cannot be changed, and changes are made only when the editor asks for them. This is what you can change in each status:
| Status | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Draft | Everything, including the type, the journal and the main language of the work |
| Documents missing | The metadata, authors, declarations and files |
| Revision requested | A new anonymous manuscript, the response to the reviewers, the title and the abstract |
The type, the journal and the main language of the work can be changed only in a draft. In a revision, the author list and the declarations do not change. A file that belongs to a submitted version cannot be removed.
Conflict of interest
You cannot act as an editor or a reviewer on a submission you are an author of. Your own submissions do not appear in the editor queue.
File security
Every file goes through a virus scan, and nobody can open it before the scan has finished. A file that fails the scan is not opened to anyone. Remove such a file and upload it again.
