Roles & Permissions Guide
The screen that shows the system roles, the permission codes each role contains and whether a role can be granted per journal.
The Roles & permissions guide button at the top of the Administration → Users & roles screen opens the Roles & permissions guide screen. The screen shows the system's own role definitions and changes nothing. Granting a role to a user is described in Granting and Revoking Roles.
Role cards
Each role has a card. The card shows the following.
- The role's name and code, for example
catalog_editor. - Whether the role is labelled Can be granted per journal or Platform-wide.
- A short description of the role.
- The code and description of every permission the role contains.
The Registered researcher and Reviewer roles contain no permissions. Their cards say that access is decided by ownership and invitations. For example, an author sees their own submission, and a reviewer sees the submission they were invited to.
Default deny
Every action that a role does not contain is refused on the server. The menus also show only the sections the user is allowed to use. If a user cannot see a screen, look on the cards for the role that contains the permission for that work.
The role pages of the help are built from the same definitions. That is why their permission lists always match the installed version.
