Forwarding a Link from the E-mail Outbox

Taking the link out of an e-mail that waits in the outbox while sending is off, passing it to the person, and sending the waiting e-mails once sending is on.

Permission needed
Manage jobs, system health and the e-mail outbox

In an installation where e-mail sending is off, the system's e-mails are not sent and wait on the E-mail outbox tab with the status Not sent (in outbox). You take the verification, invitation and password links from these e-mails and pass them to the person yourself. For example, the password link of a new reviewer whom an editor invited by e-mail address waits here too.

  1. On the Administration → System health screen, open the E-mail outbox tab.
  2. In the Status list, select Not sent (in outbox).
  3. On the row of the e-mail to the person's address, press View content.
  4. Copy the link from the text in the window.
  5. Pass the link to the person through a secure channel.

Viewing an e-mail's content is written to the audit log, because the content can contain one-time links. The e-mail's text also states how long the link is valid. Instead of an expired link, create a new One-time password link on the person's user page.

In-panel notifications are created without e-mail too. If the person can sign in to the panel, they see their notifications under the bell.

When sending is turned on

After you turn e-mail sending on, send each waiting e-mail with the Resend button on its row. If sending is still off, the screen says that the e-mail will stay in the outbox. Setting up sending is described in Configuring Outgoing E-mail.
